Shopping is a woman’s favorite activity.

I know all the best shops in town for great bargains. I got even better bargains because Oregon has no sales tax.

I went shopping and bought a lot of things for my children and relatives. I was also careful and looked hard for the best things.

I could have used several more days just for shopping. I wanted to go to a special cosmetics outlet and to specialty stores like Jantzen, Nike, and Pendleton too, but no time.

This was a very busy day. After class I went to Myrna Ritz for their quilting demonstration.

I was very surprised at Myrna’s work room. It is fantastic.

I was genuinely interested in her quilting work. I was so impressed that I ordered a handmade blanket quilt which Myrna worked on for the next two days to be able to present to me before I left for Japan.

What was nice was that I got to choose my own patterns by buying some material at Ben Franklin’s.

In the evening I went to church where I joined the Homemaking Night project.

I got to meet with a lot of friendly people and I got to be involved in a hands-on project which I could take back to Japan with me. I was lucky to be able to be involved in this kind of project. Language was not a problem.

A professional cake decorator came to teach me in the classroom how to decorate little cakes and how to make cookies.

Not only was the lesson a lot of fun, but the results were very delicious.

It was a little messy, but I have enjoyed personalizing my cakes and having something to take home for my host family to eat.

I was fascinated with the fact that my host family had so many children and that the house was so big.

I always enjoyed everything I did. I was anxious to learn and to do new things. And of course, I love shopping so I had fun going with them.

I loved making cinnamon rolls and being in an American house to do it. I was excited about the private lesson I got from the most famous baker around the country.

You should try to speak English, even if you make mistakes. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

You should also have a curiosity about learning English and ask a lot of questions. This is one of the best ways to learn English--ask, ask and ask.

You should use a new material immediately. You should use it very well and correctly from the start. It makes your language “live.” It will not stay only in your mind, but it will come out of your mouth.
